Sacred Spaces

What does it mean for a space to be sacred?

Is it the beauty of the space? The peacefulness? A place filled with light and warmth, or something a bit darker and cozy? Is it something else all together? Do I experience a sacred space in the same way that you, or another, experiences sacred space? There are some spaces where the veil between heaven and earth seems especially thin, where the sacred feels more tangible. So often we are too busy or too distracted to notice these sacred spaces in our own lives and in the normal, beautiful things surrounding us. I have been meditating on these various things for a long time, and have been inspired to capture these sacred spaces in a way that comforts us and also causes us to yearn for them.

So far I have released collections titled “Sacred Spaces: Heavens” and “”Sacred Spaces: Reflections.” “Heavens” is primarily a collection of oil paintings, and focuses on the expansive skies and open spaces that allow you to breathe freely. “Reflections” transitions to watercolor, and while it does showcase a variety of different water reflections, these paintings are also a representation of my own personal reflections. These collections have taken on a life of their own and have grown and changed over time. The third collection in this series, “Sacred Spaces: Rooted,” is currently in progress. I initially intended for this collection to be various paintings of trees (because I love trees) but as I have grown and processed I have realized that it is actually my journey of becoming rooted where I am. It is a love letter to the sacred space all around me, the place where I am putting down my roots and finding home. The veil feels thin on the North Shore of MA, and I hope to be able to share that with you.

Sacred Spaces: Heavens, and Sacred Spaces: Reflections are currently available, as well as a limited set of prints from each collection. The third collection, Sacred Spaces: Rooted is currently in progress and will be available soon!
